New News
- Less New News
25/9/05 - Still
no new news other than more free downloads @ Soundclick
. Oh yeah...... nice to have the Ashes back :-)
4/02/05 - No
Silverman news of any note unfortunately other than there's a couple of more
recent songs that you can find here
Also......................... there're are some wonderful Calmer* nights coming
up. All the info here
19/05/04 - Here's
a treat.

8/05/04 - Ok
- Our online shop seems to have died. Please feel free to us the PayPal option
instead to pick up Speed Of Life. Probably a damn site more reliable. To those
kind people who've bought stuff over the last couple of weeks and not got it
through, you'll get it v soon. Martin has been a distracted chap. If anyone has
placed an order through the Shop and has experienced a stupidly long delay in
receiving a cd or has any queries please do drop
us a line.
26/04/04 - The
sun's shining, the cricket season's here and we've the featured song at the new
mp3c http://music.download.com/ Hmmmm
nice. MP3.com was great for us. Made a stack of friends there, let's see what
happens with music.download, could be good.
An immense
performance by Earnest Cox
@ Calmer* last night.
Thanks people. Thanks also to Leo Saunders and Susanna Waters. A Calmer*
classic.
Silverman?
Writing, recording, doing our thing, getting there
.....................slowly.
16/02/04 - Well
the battle to create a new Arts Centre in town ended up on it's arse. Plus ca
change. A stunning example of missed opportunity.
As you may have
noticed we've gone PayPal mad as some people were having difficulties with the
shop. Feel free.
Continuing work
on the new album at Smallworld (thanks for the time Paul you're a star) and at
Al's Deaconstruction in Bath is going well. We'll be up in Nottingham with Guy
Elderfield and Mark from Lorna over the next couple of weeks to mix some songs.
Not long now folks...........
Live? End of
May at the Guildhall looks like a goer. There'll be others.
The new message
board seems to work fine.
Oh and if you
get the chance read Vernon God Little. It's like nothing else.
More soon.
30/11/03 - A
local issue - There's a
Meeting of the Council to be held in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Offices on Monday, 1st December, at 2.30 p.m.
at which the council may well allocate nearly three quarters of the Axiom sale proceeds to the Art Gallery & Museum. A major kick in the teeth for the town
and IMHO the end of any realistic chance of sustainable, progressive arts provision
in Cheltenham.
Here's the Agenda:
The full report/proposal is here:
Martin's gobbing off here:
Your local councillor, who's mugshot,
phone number and email address can be found here:
DOESN'T have to vote in favour of the Strategy for Arts Development. Time and/or inclination
willing please do contact them and if you feel as I do that the proposal is rushed,
misguided and a massive opportunity missed please do take the opportunity to share
your thoughts with them.
Time is clearly short. Go for it.
30/11/03 - If
you're reading this then...thanks. Sorry for being a bit out of it recently. We
really do appreciate all the kind mails, cd orders and support that we receive.
We're now back working on the album and really want to concentrate our efforts
on that until it's finished. That being the case we have nothing lined up gig
wise and probably won't be out playing live until the spring. More specific info
when we have it.
You may be
aware that mp3.com has been taken over and the entire music database is to be
binned. This will present a temporary problem for us in that the song stream and
download links on this site relate to our mp3c page. We'll organise an
alternative as soon as poss. There have been a couple of people also who've had
difficulty with the Silverman
Shop. We're tested it recently and not encountered any problems ourselves
but we are looking at a PayPal option that may make life a little easier. Infact
there's a stack of site related stuff we need to look at. On the case.
We're also
looking to revamp the links page so drop
us a line if there's a site you feel you should be on it.
Calmer*
has been going well with some great performances recently from Pete
Bruntnell, Lorna,
Steve Franks, Jim Bob,
Applecraft and Pony Club. There's a load of great stuff lined up so please do
check it out. Congratulations to Lorna too for their successful Spanish tour in
Oct.
Talk again soon
19/9/03 - Apologies
for the lack of news here over the summer. We've been taking a bit of a break
from things. Doing nothing is sometimes the most constructive option; maybe.
More news as and when.
Those in
striking distance of Cheltenham might be interested in the forthcoming Calmer*
night with the wonderful Peter Bruntnell and our great friends Lorna:
Sun 28 Sep
The Playhouse Theatre, Cheltenham
|
|
Peter Bruntnell
New Zealand-born, Surrey-raised and westward soul-bound. The NME says,
“His records should be taught in schools”. Uncut says, “Steeped in
the honeyed hickory grit of Gram Parsons.” Essential.
www.peterbruntnell.co.uk
Lorna
A most welcome debut at Calmer* in Cheltenham. Dark complex dream pop.
Signed to Heavenly (Doves, Beth Orton) sounding heavenly.
www.lornamusic.co.uk
Steve Franks
Unbelievable jazz guitar. From Bacharach to Bohemian Rhapsody in the blink
of a bossa nova.

30/6/03 - As
you may be aware the message board is shite. Toooooo slow. Tumbleweed. We'll be
sorting it out over the next couple of weeks. Blisscent
II will infact be out August 25th not July.
Very much
looking forward to the Ashton
Court Festival. We're onstage @ 12.30 on Sun 20th July. It's a top festival
and a great day/weekend out. Maybe see you there.
Recording in
progress. Sounding good.
Laters
11/6/03 - Hot
hot new release alert. Blisscent
II is out on the 25th of July. Track One = Ctrl Alt Del !!!!! Nelson is a
star and has for the second time (see Blisscent I - The Lorna track You Me
Barcelona Now is on it) compiled an album containing some of the best new
original experimental shoe/stargazer stuff on planet pop.
"Blisscent I, a breathtaking
compilation of sonic beauty. One listen will have you spellbound, as you relive
the glory days of music, and hope for what could be." - Auralgasms
"It is this continuity, and the
tremendous talent involved, that makes 'Blisscent I' such a successful
collection of tracks." indieville.com
Nelson also runs a massive Yahoo
User Group which is a great way to get a heads up on a stack of great bands
that may have passed you by. Go get it.
Quick reminder......Bath Spa Ball this
Friday (13th June) and The Lakota in Bristol on Sat 14th. Come and say hello.
Ta
31/5/03 - No
news.....is good news
18/5/03 - Recording
with Gavin went great. Think we've found our man :-) He gets us completely. For
the record we did...
Gloria
No Such Word As
Travel Sick
Tzzzzz
We'll be back there to continue work on the album throughout the summer interspersed
with the odd live date at which
we'll be previewing the new material. Ohhh Jah. Keep checking the site for info.
There's a Calmer*
site now up. The acts and the venues are first rate. We know that for a fact
'cause we book 'em. We don't care how you get there, just get there if you
can.
A reminder that
we now have an online store where you can pick up copies of the albums
(Archangel and Star will both be ready very soon) here.
Blah blah blah blah blah. You know what to do.
Check out the
splendid new Silverman Message board
that's up this week...(phewwww). Big thanks to Dave Heywood @ http://www.nicedayin.co.uk/
for sorting that........ and.......well that's about it for this latest
thrilling instalment of 'I wonder what ever happened to that that band Silver
something or other wasn't it?'
Ta
30/4/03 - Off
to the Magic Garden in Wolverhampton next week to do some recording. It's not
really a magic garden, it's a studio but I (Martin) feel that we ought to make
that clear so as to avoid any unnecessary literal translations. Carina
Round who we're big fans of recorded First Blood Mystery there which is a
great sounding record. Fate conspired against us last year as we were booked to
go in but it couldn't happen. Fingers crossed we'll get a result this time. If
the songs turn out as well as we hope there's a chance that one might appear on
our mp3.c page soon.
All will or won't be revealed soonish.
Been good to
catch up with Mark and Sharon from Lorna
over the last couple of weeks. Their new album's finished now and sounding
fabulous. Go here
to get downloading sample tracks. The sooner that sees the light of day the
better :-)
Even Stevo's
getting in on the act with a 7" single, called "Ég elska hana",
out soon with remixes by Yellow6 and Marconi Union on the B-side, and an album
out in the autumn, both on Ochre
Records. Seeking the obscure then taking it out for an ice-cream.
You never know Silverman
might put a new record out one day.
Al's been
working hard doing the sound and involved in the music on the excellent
independent Bristol film Yam by Angel Garden (that's her name it's not a
studio). Very enjoyable it was too.
Calmer
* a Silverman production continues to go from strength to strength. The Amy
Wadge show last Sunday was sensational. BIG turn out and top performances
from 90 Degrees South, Louis
Eliot and Amy. She's back @ the Guildhall in Gloucester on Sat 31st May with
Lorna. Loads of top acts currently being booked for the next three months. Best
checkout the Calmer
website here
for details.
A quick mention
re the Silverman
message board The woodwork's been well and truly squeaking there over the
last few weeks. You live and learn I guess. It's nice that you take the time and
trouble to go there, but please!!!!!!!! if you do visit.......... try not to eat
anyone.
It's a funny
old thing the internet, you never know who's listening
......time to go.
9/4/03 - Well
Calmer at both the Guildhall and Playhouse last month were raging successes. See
Live
We're still
working on the new material and will be continuing to do so for the next few
months. That said the single should be coming together over the next few weeks.
We're looking at Ctrl Alt Del, Speed of Life (the title track that never made it
onto the album) the Water Sugar DLTWWM remix and the Longstone DLTWWM remix.
Very good value for pocket money. Aiming to have something out for end of June.
As you may be aware we more in mysterious and often extremely slow ways. Let's
see how it goes. We'll keep you posted.
Gigs are taking
a back seat for a while with the exception of a few summer balls and the
possibility of a couple of festivals. Do feel free to mail Summer Sundae @ HASWR001@leicester.gov.uk
Big Chill @ info@bigchill.net and Ashton
Court @ info@ashtoncourtfestival.com
with your recommendations that we should be appearing on their line ups. It all
helps (hopefully).
Funny old thing
the Internet. You never know who's listening
......time to go.
9/3/03 - Writing,
recording and putting together a stack of Calmer dates @ The Gloucester
Guildhall and Chelt Playhouse. We're doing the first Chelt one on Sun 30th March
with Caroline Martin. Here's a story......Anna and Steve were driving home from
the studio the other night and put the John Peel show on the radio as you do.
Caroline Martin was in session and so much did they enjoy what they heard we
contacted her the next day and asked her to come and play with us in Chelt. She
wrote back saying yes and behold Sun 30th it is. Bringing the new best bands,
the best new songs, the best voices to two of the best venues around, if you can
make it down do. Gonna be great.
The
Silverman Shop is up and running which is nice, thanks to Paul for his help.
So you can pick up Speed of Life, Star and Archangel directly from us. We're in
the process of pressing both Star and Archangel and may even add and additional
track and do new artwork. They'll be ready very soon.
We're also
putting in some dates for May & June. News on them soon. In the meantime
here's a full listing of the fantastic Calmer dates we have lined up :

15/1/03 - A
belated happy new year y'all. Hope you all survived the drinkathon that is the
holiday season. If you didn't then I guess you're dead. That's life.
We're keeping
our heads down for a bit, with the exception of the Borderline date with Amy
Wadge on the 30th Jan, the Guildhall with Lorna on the 31st and the Bullingdon
in Oxford on the 15th Feb. Efforts are being focused on new songs, recording and
FX board construction.
We've binned
the Flash website (don't ask) and will live online here until our new design is
completed. We plan to have e-commerce and even a chat facility when it's
finished which shouldn't be too long (famous last words). If there's anything
you think ought to be on the site.....I don't know....a picture of a stuffed
pigeon in a dress perhaps, then please tell us. All images/ideas/donations
gratefully received. This is an inclusive shop, for inclusive people.
Have fun, keep
in touch.
28/12/02 - Almost
another year over. We've had a good one. Played 75ish dates this year, released
our album, met a load of great people and had a lot of fun. The last gig of the
year was a great way to finish off. A BIG hometown performance.
Thanks to everyone for listening.
Whether online, on cd, live or whatever.
Roll on 2003...... loads planned......see you there.
Onwards and upwards :-)
29/11/02 - Only
a couple of gigs left this year. Three infact: Worcs on the 1st Dec, Glos on the
20th and a big bad Christmas party in Cheltenham on the 22nd Dec. The rest of
the time we're going to spend working on and starting to record new material.
We've already started pre production at Alan's place and things are sounding
good. Working titles include Gloria, Perspex Between Our Lips and Silver
Bullet.
Time to book a
studio and put the pressure on. Push the pig. The plan is to get something new
out earlyish 2003. What, how and with who remains to be seen. Watch this
space.
If you haven't
a copy of Speed of Life yet then get it here.
No record collection is complete without it. Don't just take our word for it,
check out the reviews here.
Over and out.
25/10/02 - Played
some great shows recently. Water Rats, Fleece and the Porter were all splendid.
There's something about playing 60 or so dates in six months that's benefited us
a hell of a lot.
As mentioned
earlier the single isn't going to happen, certainly not immediately and not with
Uglyman. We'll be gigging until the end of the year - check the Live
News section and then concentrating our efforts on finishing new songs and
recording. We've got a stack of great new ideas and a whole load of people we'd
like to work with, can't wait to get in the studio again and nail 'em. Onwards.
13/10/02 - Big
night coming up - Weds 16th @ London
Water Rats , Gray's Inn Rd. We've had a succession of shite gigs recently,
inappropriate venues/other bands and promotion. Your support would be
appreciated and rewarded plentifully. We'll also have copies of Archangel
and Star
on sale you lucky lucky things.
5/10/02 - Anna's
mended and we're looking forward to two top London dates coming up very soon.
London School of Economics @ The Quad - Houghton Street London WC2A 2AE
on Thurs 10th Oct and London
Water Rats Both nights should be great and your support most welcome. Get
down there.
Unfortunately
the single release appears to have proven a figment of our over active
imaginations. Uglyman have decided to not put it out. We're extremely
disappointed. What's a feckless band supposed to do?
Continuing the
downbeat stuff, we were all upset at the sad news that Tim Rose recently passed
away. We're talking with Barry at the Borderline about rescheduling those dates
at which we would have been supporting Tim. As soon as anything comes through
we'll stick it up on the site.
18/9/02 - Plenty
of live dates coming up including a load of colleges. Check out Live
News Had to pull the Talk Radio James Whale session unfortunately as Anna
been under the weather. It's touch an go as to whether she'll be ok for
tonight's gig at the Porter Bar in Bath. We'll keep people up to date on the message
board
Been pretty
quiet over the last few weeks, with a couple of notable exceptions. The Damien
Rice support at the Borderline was a great night. Guitarist Paul eventually
managing to turn up half way through the second song of a tactically rearranged
set. Piss poor traffic and the lack of an A-Z proving the enemy. All's swell
that end's swell. We had a swell time, there's a lot worse ways to spend half an
hour than playing to a room full of Damien Rice fans. They got it, they know a
good thing when the see it.
In The City gig
@ 42nd Street in Manchester was our most recent excursion. Stressful old night
but we put in a big performance and the sound was superb. Thanks to Jay and Bonebox
for sharing their backline.
As regards the
single release. Don't hold your breath pop kids. More on that
later..............
28/8/02 - We've
put up an html site (as you well know by now cause you're here reading it) to
compliment the wizzy Flash site that's been under development. Some
people/computers find it difficult to access it so here we go...a non flash
alternative. There's a stack more songs, vids and an Access All Areas section on the Flash
site (accessible from the main silvermania.co.uk entry page). It contains
exclusive songs, vids and info, we'll also be able to keep you up to date with
all the latest news once you've left your details.
The albums out
to critical acclaim
and we're releasing a single 'Don't Leave This World Without Me' @ the beginning
of Oct. The song is a remixed and edited version of the one on the album. We're
including two favourites off the mp3c album Star as well, Taken With You &
Complicated. There are Longstone and Sugarwater mixes of the track that we'll be
putting up in the AAA section of the Flash Site and using as radio promo, we may
even press some and sell them as a limited edition collectors thing.
A tour is being
put together as we write with dates so far confirmed listed in the Live
section. Next show is on Mon 9th with Damien Rice @ the Borderline closely
followed by an In The City gig at 42nd St, Bootle St, Manchester
It's been a
good year with a stack of great shows. We've recruited a new guitarist Mt Paul
Treby who's doing a great job. We'll write more when we can be arsed. Until
then.....Word
is..............
BIG gap
8/4/02 - Playing
hard, working harder. Plans coming together, minds coming apart. Check out Live
News for latest reviews and forthcoming dates. More important than all of
that though we did Lorna in our first 5 a side.
Silverman
V Lorna five a side report:
Blown away by an
opening 9 goal burst from a simply superb, scintillating Silverman strike force
plucky team Lorna eventually recovered to add a hint of dignity to what was fast
becoming a humiliating trouncing, finally going down 15-12.
The rematch in Nottingham promises to be a closer run affair with team Lorna
looking to sign the Democratic Republic of Mansfield Rd goal hanger Monkeyman
along with Gentleman (bit yer legs) Jim to add much needed strength to their
challenge.
25/3/02
- We've just had the first Calmer
weekend in Chelt. Great stuff. Some top gigs on their way (check Live
News) the album nearing release and spring is in the air. Hmmmmmmmm gonna be
good.
Cheltenham -
Calmer - Sun 24th March
Part two of
the first Calmer double header and again a triumph for cool, quality sounds. We
had no idea what to expect but we'd hoped for a successful launch. That's what
we got.
Alan was in
London doing his Kung Fu thing so that left Anna, Stevo and Martin to fly the
Silverman flag with a short set of acoustic songs. Another magical set of songs,
some favourites mixed with songs from the forthcoming album. Cool. Good to meet
up with Ed too :-)
90 Degrees
South followed showcasing tracks from the 10/10 Future Music album 'Plans For
Travel' (out now on Ochre
Records). A fascinating soundscape of beats, samples and gentle guitar. A
journey in its own right, the sound of 90 Degrees South is a classically crafted
sonic adventure. Fantastic. Thanks Kev.
What a great
way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Things
In Herds are coming up from Brighton for the April shows on Sat 20th and Sun
21st. We're playing @ The Monarch on the 20th so London and Cheltenham look like
being good places to be that night. Spoilt for choice.
Thanks to
Phil Jump and Badlands
for sponsoring the fliers and special thanks to Cam and all @ the Mezza/The
Mitre for the venue and the PA.
Cheltenham -
Calmer - Sat 23rd March
The first of
our monthly weekenders at Mezza/The Mitre in Cheltenham. It's our baby and we do
what we like. We like crystal clear sound, great songs, candles, vibe and
beautiful performances. Judging from the great turn out and reaction of
the audience so do they.
Stepping in
at short notice for Simon Connelly was Steve Franks who got proceedings under
way. What a star. A set of immense classical guitar playing that left the place
enthralled. Classy stuff and a top bloke with it. He's playing again on May 26th
with Dreamfield so make sure you get there early.
Silverman
sounded like Silverman tonight and after the sound 'issues' of the last couple
of gigs that came as something of a relief. Space, clarity and beauty were back
and in that kind of environment nothing and nobody comes close to delivering the
kind of spellbinding almost spiritual kind of performance that Anna put in. It
was nothing short of a privilege to be there and I appreciate that actually
being in the band kind of obligated my attendance and may compromise (may??) my
objectivity BUT sometimes these things just need to be said. She/We rocked.
Gently, subtly and beautifully.
18/3/02 - Hang
on in there troops. Soon soon soon soon soon soon. Get your beautiful asses down
to Boom on Thurs 21st. First proper home town gig... the more people there the
merrier. Backyard Cub in Cavendish Sq London on the 22nd is gonna rock too.
Fazers on stun. Out international brigade are excused attendance on this
occasion as is Jim (ouch!). The rest of you......well you know what to do.
See you on
the other side.
3/3/02 - Album
news shortly. We're looking at March 18th for a mail-order release through Opal
Music and a few of the indie stores in cities and towns where we've played
and are playing will stock it. Should also be available at gigs.
Keep checking
the site as there is a load of cool info that we'll be sharing soon. Laters.
22/1/02 - Loads
of live dates being booked - see Live
News. New management being appointed (don't ask it's a long and rather dull
story). Songs being written, hearts and cars and minds being broken, photographs
taken, single and mini album in production, new website near completion stuff
like that.
Thanks to all
the eteamers for their hard work. We really appreciate you all spreading the
word. If you want a piece of the action contact
us
Oh and nice
one Cheltenham Town reaching the 4th Round of the FA Cup. There is a God and his
initials are S.C.
Feel the
love.
4/1/02- Happy
New Year - Maybe see you @ The Wheatsheaf on Friday 11th Jan. Should be a great
night. More gigs being booked as we write - watch this space. Take it easy. More
news soon.........
19/12/01 - Just
when you think you're winning..........the handsome prince turns back into a
frog and even does a runner (or should that be a hopper) with the extremely
expensive amp you lent him. Poor behaviour and extremely bad karma. We're
not used to being shafted. It's been really upsetting and come as a huge
disappointment to be treated like that. We'll get even, don't know where, don't
know when, but we will.
The new
Leighton Media designed site is ready imminently. Looking great. Those on our
mail list will be informed over the next few days, those not on our mail list
really should be, it's the hottest ticket in town.
An extremely
good Now.com acoustic session
is in the can and ready for airing early next year. Rebecca, Jon and Marino from
Now couldn't have been more supportive or encouraging. Respect.
Christmas
present 2 time - We're playing an Acoustic show with Lorna @ the Mitre on Sat
22nd (yes we know this is late notice). Be there if you can and bring a candle,
we're gonna get all moody on you.
The Bristol
gig @ The Louisiana on the 13th Dec went really well. Roland and Miles
& Veronique showed up which was great. Soon to be canonised Mark drove down
from Nottingham played half a song in the sound check then put in an almost
faultless performance. Not bad considering he hadn't played the set since June.
(Hello Sharon, good to meet you)
The UNICEF
fundraising compilation Lonely This Christmas has been doing well - if you get
the chance check it
out.
It's been an
'interesting' year and a pretty tough one in many ways, kind of summed up by
Anna who's at this moment lying on Martin's bathroom floor in a post works
Christmas bash coma. Sleep tight girl.
Time to get
the single out, time to get the album out, time to play a shed load of gigs.
Roll on 2002.
The word is
Silverman.......spread the word
Quick

promote Silverman on and offline and receive signed albums T-shirts, used
underwear + loads of other cool stuff. Contact us HERE
for more information. Go for it :-)
22/11/01 -
Planet Silverman. Check out
the new Gods
of Music review of Ctrl
Alt Del (blush blush), they've got it pretty much spot on as far as we can
tell :-) Not long to go now 'til Christmas, either or both of the Silverman
albums would make great gifts - blatant plug - go on go on go on go on
go on go on go on go on. Hands on hearts.....You
won't be disappointed.
Talking of
Christmas presents, we've got TWO for you. Here's the first.....
We've
recorded a very spangly, beautiful lo-fi (or should that be Low-fi)
Christmas song with Mark form Lorna
It's called 'Happy Birthday Jesus Christ' and is to be included on a collection
of original Christmas songs from artists all over the world including Lorna,
Moya, Coastal, Chemistry
Experiment and Echoboy. The record to be entitled 'Lonely This Christmas?' and
will be in aid of UNICEF.
The site where you can buy the CD will not go live until December 1st, with the
CD to follow of December 3rd. We'll send out a mailer with full details soon. If
you're not on the mail list drop us a line here
and we'll keep you up to speed with life on planet Silverman.
The
second........
All will be
revealed soon.
Steve's
mastering his double bass and has promised not to turn jazz though the goatee is
slightly concerning. Alan's doing another Kung Fu grading next week (though
Martin still reckons he could have him). Anna's being mad and Martin's being. We're taking our collective neurosis
to The Magic Garden in Wolverhampton at the end of Nov to check out a couple of
new songs. Gavin Monaghan runs the studio and when we heard the Carina
Round album which was recorded there we knew we had to work with him. Gonna
be good.
Next gig - Louisiana
- Bristol, Thurs 13th December - Maybe see you there.
Ta
2/10/01- It's
looking like November for the album release. Worth
the wait...... promise !!!!!!! Circumstances beyond our control and all that
(excluding the fact that we decided to totally redesign the artwork).
Frustrating as hell but we'll get there soon.
The album
will actually be a CDROM containing various
goodies on it such as a Silverman screensaver, Silverman mp3 player skin, a
couple of acoustic tracks that we did for MP3
TV earlier in the year and a competition. There’ll even be a link to a
splendid new site currently under development by Leighton
Media in Sunderland on which you'll find find lyrics, images, songs to
download, exclusive demo tracks, rants, song chords (possibly), all sorts of
stuff. We've seen some of the beta development and the new site is state of the
art. In a word, awesome. You WILL be impressed.
Those of you
who've expressed interest in our E-team, hang on in there. The new site will
also include some special stuff for you. We'll be in touch soon on that front.
Other than
not getting the album out and not doing all the gigs we were expecting to do
we've been really busy. We're really pleased to have just appointed a
manager..... introducing Mr. Johnny Lawes. He's got great energy and
vision, loads of experience, Gabrielle, Mark Morrison, Shane McGowan, Raging
Speedhorn and is a huge Silverman fan. Game on. Johnny's busy building a top
team, live agent, press agent, plugger all the sort of people a band needs to
get in people's faces. We'll let you know who's 'in' in the near future.
Writing hard,
loads of great new ideas (not that you lot have heard the latest material yet
with the exception of Ctrl
Alt Del @ mp3.com)
Jolly good.
Take care. Keep in touch and spread the word.
4/7/01
Mark's still
going to come down and make some noise when he's free from Lorna commitments and
Anna and Martin are threatening to apply dubious sounds to his new stuff. The
love affair continues :)
Album's been
mastered and the artwork's complete. We're looking at August now (oooooops) but
we'll be there soon. It'll be worth the wait, promise.
Bristol
Fleece & Firkin was a beautiful, beautiful night. Great sound and we played
a good set including a new song 11:11. Loads of friends and even some family
were there for the first time and it felt great to be able to show them what
we're up to in such a cool venue. The word pride comes to mind.
Worcester was
ok. We weren't completely on top of our game that night (don't mention random
worded mumbling to Anna, she'll blush).
The Black Pig
in Salisbury could have been good if anyone had been there to watch, though the
promoter and the couple at the back were very complimentary and Mark enjoyed his
pizzas.

JOIN THE SILVERMAN E-TEAM !!!!!!!! - Help
promote Silverman on and offline and receive signed albums T-shirts, used
underwear + loads of other cool stuff. Contact us HERE
for more information. Go for it :-)
We know we
keep threatening but there will be new material at Mp3c
soon. Feels like the quiet before the storm (or a squall perhaps, or maybe we'll
need to build an arc who knows?). Exams and final hand ins are being completed
by Anna and Alan, Steve's in Belgium drinking all their beer and Martin is.
Looks like Mark is finally getting the deal with Heavenly finalised which is
great news for him but sad for Silverman (and Mark) as his increasing
Lorna commitments mean we really ought to recruit another guitarist. If you
fancy a crack at it or if you know someone who might then please get
in touch. It's not a proficiency thing, it's all about where your head's at.
Mark is sure to still be involved but Lorna priorities come first.
The songs are
at the mastering stage (Talking of the album there's some cheesy snaps from the
recording sessions here ) and we're
starting to sort out some gigs for the summer. There's a possibility of some
dates in Holland and some Borders Bookshop acoustic things as well as an college
and university tour Sept/Oct. We'll be sure to keep everyone posted. Infact
we'll be sending a mailshot out with news on all forthcoming events as soon as
the new song's uploaded at mp3c.
If you're not on our mail list email
us now !!! Our next show is at The Fleece
& Firkin on Monday 18th June. Email
us for £1 admission flyers. Be there or...cut your hair or something.
There's an
extremely cool Silverman
appreciation site called Magnificent that's appeared recently courtesy of
Simon Back. We're extremely appreciative of the effort and insight that Simon's
put into it. It's clear he understands where we're coming from and where we're
trying to go. Nice work Simon - a Silverman gold star to you.
That's about
it for now. Keep in touch, maybe see you in Bristol, if not hopefully hear from
you soon.
13/4/01 - Surprise,
sur..Speed of Life..prise.............. the album release date has been put back
(and we don't even have anyone to blame but ourselves :-) We're looking at July
now for it to be out in the shops and available 'physically' but there will
definitely be new material on mp3.com very soon and we intend to have a
DAM version of it there depending on technicalities. You know what it's
like......excessively precious naval staring, fear of commitment, microscopic
attention to details that nobody will even notice, limited studio availability.
Yes Mark I know, I know !!!!! Stone Roses, Stereo MCs here we come !!! That said
the new tracks are all sounding great. The new songs sound
like............Oliver Stone.
There's some Audrey Hepburn in there and a little Jodie Foster a little Red
Stripe and maybe a hint of Blue Velvet.
The new tracks recorded
are:
The Speed
of Life - 'Airplanes make strangers of
us all,' BOC.
Can I Have My Heart Back Please? - Big
and beautifully sensitive, like a mountain.
Ctrl Alt Del - Reflective and
respectful. It's only momentum that keeps me alive.
Nothing I Do Nothing I Say - Shimmer
baby...
Secret Baby - Weird, trip popish goings
on. Underwater mentalism.
11:11 - The sound of an
emotional hangover.
Don't Leave This World Without Me - Baby
grip my hips, teach me how to fly.
Be Beautiful - Is very.
Yes I do care - Anna at her acoustic
best.
Loving Me - Yes she does care
We're
planning to include a couple of our most popular internet songs on the
album as well. We'd love to know which ones you'd like most. Please take a
moment and select your top three or four here
The next of
our rare live shows on Friday 27th April at Night & Day Manchester. If
you're around and about that part of the world then check it out. It's an
UglyMan label night and is going to be a monster. More dates to be announced
soon.
9/3/01 - Mixing
this weekend. There's some major beauty going down :-) Come to that
there's some major beast going down too. Anna will also be recording three new
acoustic songs in a Time Is A Blade bedroom session studio stylee as well. We'll
be sending out info on Internet song release over the next week or so. If you're
not on our list drop us your mail address and we'll be sure to keep you posted
with all the latest info and stuff.
Vote
for Lorna
to support Dodgy at the Astoria on March 30th. Mark of Lorna who plays guitar
with Silverman is well up for the gig. Let's get them there. Vote
Vote Vote
It's a little
embarrassing really as our good friend Toby
Slater
is fighting it out alongside them for the converted support and we don't want to
appear unsupportive to either him or Lorna. We want them both to win. Hopefully
Dodgy can put them both on?
Errrrrrrrr..........time
to go. Over and out.
27/2/01
- Well we're home from a monster week in
Nottingham. Played the Water Rats on Sat the 17th (great venue, very responsive
and up for it crowd, click here
for a live review), got home at some horrendous hour of the morning in time to
catch a couple of hours sleep before heading up to Notts. Martin felt like death
warmed up until about Wednesday (there's a lot of it about) but hung on in
there.
A truly
memorable experience it's all been (except for the Mexican meal and the rude waiter
who was within one more stroppy remark of being floored). The Lorna
crew contributed wonderfully with Chris on guitars, Mark on guitars and keys,
Hilma on trumpet and Helen on viola. Alan and Steve put down some great keys and
bass. Martin chipped in with a bit of drumming and boxing glove guitar playing
and Anna sang like only she can. Top songs, beautifully (and on occasions
brutally) delivered. A sonic space ship expertly piloted by Guy
Elderfield. We took a load of photos which we'll stick up here v soon.
The tracks recorded
were:
The Speed
of Life
Can I Have My Heart Back Please
Ctrl Alt Del
Nothing I Do Nothing I Say
Secret Baby
Inconceivable (working title)
Don't Leave This World Without Me
Baby I Do My Best (working title)
There's still
a couple of others that we'd like to get down, but they're mainly acoustic so we
might do them at Mike
Pig's if he's game. 'Loving Me' + 'Yes I Do Care'. Hopefully we'll also have
a crack at 'I Like You You're French' with Danny
K.
Not much
planned for the immediate future other than the mix session on the 11th &
12th and a video production starting on the 7th & 8th with Kay at Cheltenham
Art College. We've got a feeling that this will be the calm before the storm
though as we'll soon get our plan formulated with UglyMan and sort a load of
live stuff to coincide with releases. There's talk of a possible single release
prior to the album. What do you think people? Good idea? Maybe we should put
some sort of vote thing on the site to see which songs people reckon should be
the single/s. In fact yes, we'll do that. Watch this gorgeous space.
The Now.com
MP3TV session went really well. Anna really cuts it when the pressure's on. Her
professionalism, pride and innate ability overcoming her nerves. Check it out here.
It's a little painful without broadband but worth a look even so hopefully.
More soon.
Over and out for now.
30/1/01 -
Songwriting is going well in advance of the album recording and release through Ugly
Man in April/May. We had a good weekend in Nottingham with Mark showing him
the new ideas and boozing. We just need to really apply ourselves now to
complete lyrics organise structures and nail them in the studio. It's time we
had some new material up and running and soon we shall.
Anna is
recording an acoustic set for Now.com
MP3TV on the 11th which will be broadcast on Asian Satellite TV and over the internet.
They'll also be interviewing us and doing a bit of a feature type thing. We'll
post more details here as soon as we have them
The next
scheduled gig is at the Water Rats in Kings Cross on the 17th Feb. Should be a
great night, Lorna and Shortwave are on the bill also.
There's a
constant flow of good news with an excellent feature in the Austrian Libro
Journal 8 !!!!songs on the Korean site Soundsky
Alternative Top 20 and the site No 1.
Time
is A Blade is featured on the Besonic
frontpage and has been a permanent fixture in the ClickMusic
Top 10 for a few months now. We have also recently enjoyed artist of the
week coverage at music33.com
where there are a couple of dodgy live songs from out debut in Manchester a
while back. We're got a front page slot at ukmusicsearch
and there are plans to contribute material for the forthcoming independent porn movie
Love Sexy along with
Death In Vegas guitarist Anthony Anderson. It's
hard work this virtual life....
Onwards and
somewhere.............
06/1/01 -
The end of what's been a stunning year.
Got a feeling though that 2001 is going to be even better. T-Shirts
are in stock (They're selling well so get your order in now!!!!). If you want a bit of Silverman in your wardrobe we'd be pleased to
hear from you. Just
finished a few very successful live dates. Read about them here.
We're
enormously proud to announce that we'll be putting a record out in April/May
with a Manchester indie called UglyMan
They've done stuff with I Am Kloot & Elbow, both of whom are starting to
make a big impression. Guy at UglyMan is an extremely good bloke and we're
delighted to have the opportunity to get involved.
Recording in Feb (probably in Nottingham). Mark Rolf is main manning which will
be brilliant. Really looking forward to getting creative with him. Release in
April/May. Out live to promote from then on in.
We've loads of new songs. Working titles include, F**k You, F**k Me, F**k Everyf**kingbody:
The Speed of Life: There Is An End (but we're not there yet): Can I have My
Heart Back Please?
One day we'll write some songs with short titles :-) As soon
as we have stuff we're happy with we'll stick it up on mp3 for people to check
out.
December 2000
Live virgins no more. See Live
& Dangerous for the story so far. There's a whole set of great new songs
brewing. Give us a couple of months and we'll get a studio sorted out and nail
them. Doing our best over here and (it's fair to say) having fun in the process.
Read on..........
Thanks for visiting the Silverman site. If you haven't heard us yet, check
out the Free Downloadable Songs. They're mp3 files of some of our
best material that we're giving away (kind aren't we?). If
you have already heard us tell your mates. The word is Silverman - spread
the word. Keep
an eye out for available tracks here as well as at our mp3.com
page as we'll be adding more in the near
future!!
We've been on the
net for just over a year now and have had a great time. We've met some
wonderful people and heard some great music.
Summer
2000 - This is Martin's second clumsy attempt at web page design (please be gentle it will improve,
honest). If you want to see something really tasty check out Sam's
fantastic work on the Archangel
page. We really appreciate all the technical support that Sammy's been
able to offer (everyone needs a geeky mate)
Archangel (Exclusively available
on the Internet) was our first 'virtual'
album and has already become an mp3.com classic. Music fans from
every continent have been claiming it for themselves. Thank you to all the
thousands of people world wide who've given us their support. We're so
appreciative. It makes everything worthwhile and anything possible.
Spring
2000 - The newer album Star is more
organic than Archangel, real drums, guitars, bass, that sort of thing. Mark
Rolfe of Lorna came down and
played some beautiful keyboards. Richie Haines of Soma
engineered and played guitars. It might be fair to say that there are even
a couple of more optimistic moments. Though to misquote Frank Zappa
"talking about music is like fishing about architecture". Check
it out for yourselves.
One day soon we'll
play live. Your mission if you choose to
accept it will be to have your internal organs sonically rearranged and your
hearts melted. It should be a more satisfactory experience than it might first
appear.
If you've got as far as
reading this it's probably because you care and are interested in what Silverman
are doing.. Thanks for that. Made a lot of friends in 2000 . It's been
great.
If there's anything
you want to know please drop us a line we do our best to reply to every
e-mail.
Cheers Anna &
Martin
